Following up on my yesterday ride I have realized my imbalances are same for the trot too. I need to watch my seatbones, my thighs. And I think it is no easier in the trot then it is in the canter.

Figuring out what exactly needs to be done to ride the canter is not easy. Especially, when a horse does not have a nice canter by nature. However, the most important thing is listening to him, so you know when you did it right.

Very often we think that the horse has a good side and a bad side for flying changes. This may be so. But an unbalanced rider creates an enormous handicap for his/her horse when the horse is learning flying changes.

Benefits of passage and medium trot combine in this exercise to create elasticity and controlled power. Passage helps to keep medium trot slow and uphill. And medium trot helps to keep passage engaged and round.

A lot of dressage barns do not have jumps or even cavallety. I think it is sad, because jumping small jumps is fun, good exercise for your horse and it creates a diversity in your training program.

Sometimes you get a ride that you want to remember forever. You get a feeling that today you have a partnership and understanding between you and your horse. You feel that you "get it", finally. Doesn't last long :)

I have read about this exercise in the "Academic Equitation" by General Decarpentry. You start with walking pirouette and you ask for the canter and continue pirouette. Sounds very simple and logical :)

Downward transitions do not require any other rein action except closing fingers during the transition. Any time you pull for a downward transition you invite your horse to brace his head and neck against you.

After reading an article in Dressage Today and working with my horse on the "accordion" exercise I have realized that I do not have enough skills to patiently develop my horse's thoroughness without trying to hurry up or cut corners.

My horse gets really excited when we work on flying changes. Usually I do them at the end of my ride and just couple times. That doesn't let me work on them and progress is slow. I decided to try a different approach today.
